Abstract

Aim: The study aimed to assess the level of cultural competence among nurses and examine its importance in delivering effective care in diverse healthcare settings.

Background: Cultural diversity in healthcare settings has increased significantly due to globalization, migration, and demographic changes. Nurses frequently provide care to patients from diverse cultural backgrounds, making cultural competence an essential component of quality nursing care.

Methods: A narrative review was reported among nurses working in selected healthcare institutions. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire assessing socio-demographic characteristics and components of cultural competence, including cultural awareness, knowledge, skills, and attitudes. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for data analysis.

Results: The findings revealed that the majority of nurses demonstrated a moderate level of cultural competence. Higher levels of cultural competence were associated with professional experience, prior training, and frequent interaction with culturally diverse patients. Communication barriers and lack of formal training were reported as major challenges.

Conclusion: Cultural competence is a vital aspect of nursing practice in diverse healthcare environments. Strengthening cultural competence through education, training, and organizational support can enhance patient satisfaction, improve health outcomes, and promote equitable healthcare delivery.
