A study to assess the effectiveness of child to child approach on knowledge and practice regarding hand washing among the primary school going children in a selected government school of Anand District

Aim: To assess the knowledge and practice of primary school going children regarding of hand washing in terms of pretest scores. To evaluate the effectiveness of child-to-child approach by comparing pre and post-test knowledge and practice scores.
Materials and Methods: The research design for the study will be Quasi-Experimental Design, with one group Pre-test and Post-test design. It involves the manipulation of independent variable to observe the effect of dependent variable. The study is conducted among primary school going children studying in 4th -5 th Standard in a selected Government School, ode, Anand.
Result: From the 60 samples Age Distribution of sample shown 20 (33.33%) as 7-8 years, 30 (50%) as 8-9 years, and 10 (16.67%) as 9-10 years. Gender distribution of samples shown 30 (50%) as Male and 30 (50%) as Female, found the domicile shown 45 (75%) as village and 15 (25%) as Urban. Type of family distribution 25 (41.66%) as nuclear family, 23 (38.33%) as joint family, and 12 (20%) as extended family. Sibling history of samples shown 22 (36.66%) as 1 sibling, 23 (38.33%) as 2 siblings, 10 (16.66%) as 3 siblings and 5 (8.33%) as 4 or more siblings. We found 5 (8.33%) as public well water supply, 30 (50%) as municipality, 15 (25%) as bore well water supply, and 10 (16.66%) as others. We found 5 (8.33%) as open field defecation drainage system, and 55 (91.99%) as closed field defecation. From 60 sample knowledge regarding hand washing shown 50 (83.33%) as yes, and 10 (16.66%) as no knowledge regarding hand washing. The PTP was effectiveness in increasing the knowledge and express as Pre-test, Mean (7.91) Std. Deviation (2.18), Post-test Mean (15.98) Std. Deviation (2.15).
Conclusion: The study concluded that there is a significant difference between the pre and post-test about knowledge and practice scores with selected demographic variables scores.
